One of the most charismatic of the costume jewelry designers of his time, Eugene Joseff is revered as a great populariser of fantasy jewels. His canny business acumen and marketing skills ensured that his pieces were given maximum exposure both through the cinema and celebrity endorsements. His creations are surrounded in myth and legend, with amusing (and most probably highly apochryphal) stories and anecdotes about his famous friends, collectors and glitterati. Many Joseff of Hollywood Jewels have a ‘trademark’ ‘Russian Gold Plated’ patina, which was reputedly to ensure that the pieces did not overly reflect the studio lights during filming.
